Srinagar, Feb 19 (GNS):  Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Friday asked government to ensure establishment of drug de-addiction and rehabilitation Centres in Jammu and  Kashmir.

“The instant petitions (PIL) are filed by the petitioner, who is now elevated to the Bench (Justice Javed Iqbal). The subject of these petitions has reference to the policy of the Government to delineate on various methods to curb the menace of drug deaddiction which has been looming large in Jammu and Kashmir and for establishment of drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centres,” a bench of Justices Ali Mohammad Magrey and Vinod Chatterji Koul observed.

“The Court has already passed the directions from time to time, which has yielded results, as the Government is on record by not only assuring establishment of drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centres but also curbing the menace by accelerating all agencies concerned and also evolving the mechanism for general awareness of the public in general and the youngsters in particular,” the court said as per GNS, adding, “We are satisfied with the approach adopted by the Government and other respondents in dealing with the menace.”

However, the court reiterated the directions from time to time and asked the authorities concerned to implement them. “The respondents shall ensure establishment of drug de-addiction and rehabilitation Centres and for accelerating the awareness of the effect of the menace amongst the general public,” the court said, adding, “In view of above, both the writ petitions (PIL) are disposed of.” (GNS)
