NC Legislature Party Meets Ahead of Autumn Session; Omar Abdullah, Coalition Members and Supporting Independents Participate
Srinagar, September 20: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) convened a legislature party meeting in Srinagar on Sunday ahead of the commencement of the autumn session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
The meeting, held at the Banquet Hall, was presided over by NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah and attended by Chief Minister and Leader of the House Omar Abdullah.
Senior NC leaders, including General Secretary Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar and Chief Whip Haji Mubarak Gul, besides party legislators, participated in the deliberations. Congress MLAs belonging to the ruling coalition and Independent legislators extending support to the government were also present.
The discussions centred on the business of the forthcoming Assembly session and the issues expected to come up during the proceedings. The legislators reviewed matters concerning their respective constituencies and discussed the need to effectively present public demands and issues before the House.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Farooq Abdullah called upon the legislators to remain focused on matters affecting the people and ensure that their concerns receive adequate attention during the session.
He stressed that elected representatives have an important role in bringing constituency-level grievances, developmental requirements and broader public-interest matters to the notice of the government through the Assembly.
Dr Farooq also underlined the importance of meaningful debate and effective participation in legislative proceedings, stating that the Assembly provides an institutional platform for representatives to seek clarification from the government and pursue solutions to issues confronting the public.
The meeting also focused on coordinating the approach of the ruling alliance during the session and ensuring that matters of public importance are appropriately raised on the floor of the House.
The autumn session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly is scheduled to begin on Monday. (KNC)
