Officials from Fire and Emergency Services told news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC that the fire was reported around 2:05 PM, following which fire tenders from Fire Station Gowkadal, Habakadal, and the Fire & Emergency Headquarters Batamaloo were rushed to the spot.

Upon arrival, two structures were found engulfed in flames, and firefighting operations were immediately launched, they said adding that total four structures were damaged.

However, officials said the situation worsened due to public interference, lack of cooperation, and a gas cylinder explosion, which led to the fire spreading to adjacent structures, causing partial damage.

During the operation, two fire personnel sustained injuries. They have been identified as Mushtaq Ahmad (LFM-1367), posted at Fire & Emergency Headquarters Batamaloo, and fireman Fahmeed Ahmad, who suffered injuries after falling while performing his duties. Both were shifted to a nearby hospital, where their condition is stated to be stable.

The firefighting operation was carried out under the supervision of ADGP Fire and Emergency Services Alok Kumar, with senior officials present on the spot to monitor the situation.

Authorities have urged the public to cooperate with emergency responders during such incidents to ensure timely and effective action.

No loss of life has been reported in the incident, while an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the fire. (KNC)
