Srinagar, April 20 (GNS): Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Monday reserved its verdict on a bail application moved by Hilal Rather, son of a former J&K minister.

Justice Puneet Gupta reserved the orders after counsel for the Central Bureau of Investigation filed objections to the bail application.

Hilal Rather has sought bail amid coronavirus pandemic. He filed the application last week and on April 17, the court had issued notice to the CBI, sources told GNS. The application more than a fortnight after a special CBI court in Jammu rejected his interim bail plea with the judicial officer saying that he will be at more risk for the coronavirus if he moves out of jail.

The judge Rajesh Sekhri had noted that in the prevailing situation, Hilal, an accused in the Rs 177 crore bank loan fraud case, is more likely to contract the virus if he moves off the jail, and his release may frustrate the purpose behind the lockdown. (GNS)
