New Delhi, Mar 24 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that the government is making efforts to procure crude oil and natural gas from all available sources in view of the ongoing West Asia conflict, which has triggered a serious global energy crisis.
Addressing the Rajya Sabha, as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, Prime Minister Modi said the situation in West Asia remains a matter of concern, and India continues to advocate peace through dialogue and diplomacy.
He said India’s priority is de-escalation of tensions and ensuring the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, while urging all parties to resolve issues peacefully.
“If the crisis in West Asia continues for a prolonged period, it may lead to serious consequences,” he cautioned.
He also said the government has launched a ₹70,000-crore project aimed at boosting domestic shipbuilding capabilities.
Highlighting steps taken to strengthen energy security, Modi said that over the past 11 years, India has created strategic oil reserves of around 53 lakh metric tonnes, while work is underway to expand capacity by an additional 65 lakh metric tonnes. (KNC)
