9 civilians, including 5 children, rescued near Churung; 2 youths saved from river island in Naushera Tawi

Rajouri, July 19 (GNS):In a swift response to the flash floods triggered by incessant rainfall, troops of the Indian Army under White Knight Corps rescued eleven civilians, including five children, from different locations in flood-affected Rajouri district.
An official told GNS that, the operations were carried out in close coordination with Jammu & Kashmir Police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the civil administration.
In the first operation, Army troops responded to reports of nine civilians, including five children, stranded across a flooded Nala near Churung Village, south of Thanamandi. Despite strong currents and challenging weather conditions, the rescue teams reached the site promptly and safely evacuated all those stranded.
In a parallel operation, troops of an Engineer Regiment rescued two youths aged between 17 and 20 years who had become marooned on a river island in the Naushera Tawi River near Dhangri, approximately 12 km from Rajouri. Displaying exceptional courage, the team braved strong water currents and brought both youths to safety. They were later handed over to their families in the presence of civil administration officials.
The statement said the timely rescue operations underscore the Indian Army’s commitment to safeguarding lives during natural disasters. Seamless coordination between the Army, Police, SDRF and civil administration ensured both missions were executed successfully without any loss of life.
“The Indian Army remains steadfast in its resolve to serve the nation and its citizens, standing shoulder to shoulder with the people in times of crisis,” the statement added. (GNS)
