In a historic achievement, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully injected the Aditya-L1 spacecraft into its final destination orbit. The Aditya-L1 mission marks a significant leap for India in space exploration, as it becomes the nation’s first space-based observatory dedicated to studying the Sun.
The spacecraft, carrying state-of-the-art instruments, is now positioned approximately 1.5 million kilometers away from Earth. According to ISRO officials, Aditya-L1 will be placed in a halo orbit around Lagrange point 1 (L1) of the Sun-Earth system. This location, at about one percent of the total distance between Earth and the Sun, provides a unique vantage point for unparalleled solar observations.
ISRO’s successful navigation of the spacecraft to its designated orbit demonstrates the agency’s prowess in space technology and engineering. The Aditya-L1 mission aims to enhance our understanding of the Sun’s behavior and its impact on space weather.
