JAMMU, August 12: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Jammu Crime Branch, J&K Police, has achieved a major breakthrough in an alleged ₹3.75-crore property cheating case, resolving the matter shortly after registration of a formal FIR.

According to an official communiqué, the case was registered at Police Station Crime Branch EOW Jammu on the basis of a written complaint filed by a Jammu-based doctor and owner of Ankur Maitrika Hospital.

The complainant alleged that he had entered into an agreement to purchase a residential plot along with a house at Channi Deeli, Jammu, for a total consideration of ₹3.75 crore. He initially paid a token amount towards the transaction but later discovered that the property had allegedly already been mortgaged with a bank, despite being represented as free from any encumbrances.

The complainant subsequently paid the agreed sale consideration through bank transactions and cash, taking the total amount paid towards the property to ₹3.75 crore, as stated in the official handout.

Following registration of the FIR, the Crime Branch EOW Jammu launched a focused investigation, examining bank records, financial transactions, receipts and other documentary evidence related to the property deal.

As a result of the investigation and prompt intervention by the Crime Branch, the matter was subsequently resolved. The sale deed was executed and the property valued at ₹3.75 crore was registered in favour of the complainant.

The investigation is being conducted by DySP Vishal Sharma, under the supervision of the SSP EOW Crime Branch Jammu and IGP Crime J&K.

The Crime Branch said the swift and coordinated investigation enabled the matter to be resolved within a short period following registration of the formal FIR. However, further investigation remains in progress.

The authorities have also urged the public to remain vigilant against property-related and economic frauds and advised citizens to report such cases to the Crime Branch EOW Jammu.

The case underscores the importance of conducting proper verification of property ownership, bank liabilities, mortgages and other encumbrances before entering into major property transactions.(KNC)
