Uri, Jun 01 (GNS): Authorities suspended water supply from a filtration plant in Dawaran area of Uri after a dead dog was allegedly found inside the facility, officials and local residents said on Monday

Residents of the area told GNS the carcass was noticed inside the filtration plant, raising concerns among consumers regarding the safety and quality of drinking water supplied to the locality. Some locals also alleged that the plant lacked adequate protective covering and proper maintenance.

According to residents, a similar incident had allegedly taken place in April last year when another dead dog was reportedly found inside the same filtration plant. They claimed that despite the earlier incident, the facility had remained uncovered.

Officials of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department said water supply from the plant was immediately suspended after the matter came to light and a cleaning process was initiated.

Executive Engineer, PHE Sub-Division Uri, told GNS that necessary directions had been issued for sanitisation and cleaning of the plant. “A proposal had been submitted under the UT Capex Budget for covering uncovered filtration plants in Uri, particularly at locations where there was a possibility of animals entering the facilities,” the official said.

Meanwhile, several residents urged the administration to depute a medical team to the area for health check-ups as a precautionary measure. (GNS)
