Srinagar, Aug 4 (GNS): Traffic Police Headquarters J&K on Tuesday issued the traffic plan and advisory for tomorrow, asking commuters to undertake journey only after confirming road status due to the inclement weather forecast by IMD.
Officials told GNS that Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), subject to fair weather and better road conditions, LMVs and passenger cars will be allowed from both sides, from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa. HMVs and load carriers will be allowed on alternate days only from Qazigund towards Jammu. No HMV will be allowed to move after 7:00 PM. TCU Jammu and Srinagar will coordinate with TCU Ramban before releasing traffic.
In view of the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026, all empty tankers of petrol, diesel, LPG, trucks carrying empty LPG cylinders, empty FCI vehicles and other vehicles up to 10 tyres carrying perishable commodities returning to Jammu have been directed to use only Mughal Road on days when the up convoy for HMVs is scheduled on NH-44.
Due to extensive damage at Dewal, Udhampur and single-lane stretches at other places, inter-district movement of local commuters within J&K will not be allowed after 1:00 PM from Nagrota, Jammu. Commuters have been advised to carry valid photo identity cards. Local commuters travelling towards Srinagar in private vehicles have been advised to use the old road via Jawahar Tunnel to avoid screening at Lamber, Banihal. Those travelling to Batote, Doda, Bhaderwah and Kishtwar from Jammu have been advised to use the old road via Patnitop to avoid screening at Nashri.
Passengers and LMV operators have been advised to prefer daytime travel and avoid night travel due to the apprehension of shooting stones and landslides, ongoing construction between Ramban and Banihal, and the Yatra movement. Fruit growers and load carriers carrying fresh perishable from the Valley towards Jammu have been advised to load and park their vehicles before 9:00 AM at designated places between Navyug Tunnel and Levdoora on the day of down convoy.
Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag NH-244, LMVs will be allowed from both sides between 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM from PP Parana towards Anantnag and 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM from Daksum towards Kishtwar, subject to weather and clearance from road agencies.
Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road, LMVs will be allowed up to 1:00 PM from both sides. HMVs will be allowed from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM from Sonamarg towards Kargil. Motorists have been advised to carry anti-skid chains.
On Mughal Road, LMVs followed by HMVs up to 10 tyres will be allowed from both sides between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM, subject to fair weather and clearance from GREF.
Traffic Police has also advised commuters to avoid unnecessary halting between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslide and shooting stone areas. HMV operators have been urged to avoid overloading and ensure vehicle fitness and sufficient fuel before undertaking the journey.
