J&K Police bust gambling racket in North Kashmir; 05 arrested

April 15: Continuing its efforts to curb illegal activities,, J&K Police busted a gambling activity in the Tilgam area of Kreeri Baramulla and apprehended five individuals involved in the unlawful act.

At approximately 0905 hours, a Special Operations Group (SOG) party of Police Component Kreeri, under the supervision of HC Mohammed Yousuf, was conducting routine patrolling in the area when they noticed a group of individuals engaged in gambling by playing cards in a public place. Acting swiftly, the police team intervened and apprehended all five persons on the spot. The individuals have been identified as Rafiq Ahmad Lone son of Gh. Ahmad Lone, Showkat Ahmad Rather son of Abdul Qayoom Rather, Parvaiz Ahmad Mir son of Gh. Hassan Mir, Suhail Magrey son of Mohd. Assadullah, Anees Hafiz son of Mohd. Hafizullah Lone all residents of Tilgam Kreeri.

During the operation, stake money amounting to ₹2,480/- along with a deck of playing cards was recovered. In addition, one motorcycle bearing registration number JK05L-5915, found without valid documents, was seized. Four mobile phones were also recovered from the site. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 35/2026 under Section 13 of the Gambling Act stands registered at Police Station Kreeri, and further investigation is underway.

&K Police reiterates its commitment towards maintaining law and order and urges the general public to cooperate and share information regarding any illegal activities in their area.
