J&K Police holds special session on effective investigation of POCSO Cases in Awantipora

February 26: J&K Police organised a special training session on the effective investigation of cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at the Conference Hall, DPL Awantipora. The programme aimed to strengthen the professional competence of Investigating Officers (IOs) dealing with sensitive cases involving children.

The session focused on the legal provisions of the POCSO Act, adoption of a victim-centric approach, proper documentation, scientific collection of evidence, coordination with medical and forensic teams, and timely completion of investigations.

Shri Mehraj-ud-Din Wani Chief LADC Pulwama and Shri Sameer Yatoo Assistant LADC Pulwama, attended the session as Guest Speaker and delivered a detailed lecture on procedural safeguards, child-friendly practices during investigation, and maintaining confidentiality and sensitivity while handling such cases.

The programme was attended by Senior Prosecuting Officer DPO Awantipora, SDPOs, SHOs, ICs of Police Posts, and Investigating Officers of Police District Awantipora. Senior officers of Police Awantipora also interacted with the participants and emphasised strict adherence to legal guidelines to ensure justice for victims and accountability of offenders.

J&K Police reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the skills of its personnel through continuous training initiatives and strengthening child protection mechanisms across the Police District.
