J&K Police seizes 05 vehicles for illegal extraction & transportation of minerals

February 08: As part of its ongoing drive against illegal mining activities, police have seized five vehicles for illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in Baramulla, Pulwama and Awantipora.

Police in Baramulla seized one tipper bearing registration number JK05B1445 and one tractor bearing chassis number IVY5300DCKA002504, involved in illegal transportation of sand at Chakloo Baramulla.  During the operation, an illegal sand dumping site containing approximately 315 MTS of dumped material was also identified and seized at Chakloo Baramulla.  Necessary legal proceedings have been initiated under the provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act (MMRD Act).

Similarly in Pulwama, a police party from Police Station Kakapora intercepted a tipper bearing registration number JK03C-5488 at Marvel near River Jhelum, which was found carrying illegally extracted minerals and was subsequently seized. Accordingly, FIR No. 11/2026 under sections 303(2) and 324 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered at Police Station Kakapora. Further investigation is underway.

Moreover, Police in Awantipora seized 02 vehicles (Tipper and Dumper) in illegal excavation and transportation of minerals in Khrew. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 06/2026 & 07/2026 under relevant sections of law have been registered in Police Station Khrew and further investigation has been initiated.

Police reiterates its commitment to take firm action against illegal mining and assures the general public that such enforcement drives will continue on a regular basis to prevent unlawful extraction and transportation of minerals.
