Anantnag, June 7: In an inspiring display of honesty, an auto-rickshaw driver from South Kashmir’s Anantnag district returned gold ornaments worth nearly ₹10 lakh to their rightful owner after finding them abandoned in his auto-rickshaw.
Waheed Ahmad Nanda, a resident of KP Road, Anantnag, was on his way to drop a passenger at Wanpou when he noticed a red bag lying in his auto.
Curious, he stopped and examined the bag, only to discover that it contained gold ornaments of considerable value.
Instead of keeping the valuables or handing them over anonymously, Nanda began efforts to trace the owner.
Later, while browsing social media, he came across a post regarding missing gold ornaments along with a contact number of the person searching for them.
Without delay, Nanda contacted the number mentioned in the post and informed the owner about the recovery of the bag.
The owner, who hails from Kulgam district, was relieved to learn that the ornaments had been found and subsequently received the valuables back intact.
The act of honesty quickly drew appreciation from local residents and social media users, many of whom hailed Nanda’s integrity and sense of responsibility.
To recognize his exemplary conduct, friends, relatives and well-wishers felicitated the auto driver and garlanded him for setting a positive example in society.
Speaking to KNT, locals said Waheed Ahmad Nanda’s gesture demonstrated that honesty and moral values continue to thrive despite changing times.
His act has earned widespread admiration and is being viewed as a reminder that integrity remains one of the most valued qualities in society. [KNT]
