Srinagar, Nov 16: Scenic spots at various destinations across Valley are recording a brisk footfall of tourists even Tourism Department is bracing to welcome more of them ahead of the winter season.
An official privy to the development said that “During the month of July 2020, only 176 tourists had visited the Valley (by air), however the figures have increased substantially to 2592 tourists for October 2020.”
“The first fifteen days of November itself have seen arrival of 2338 tourists as the number is going up with each day”, the official said adding “On Sunday 574 tourists, including some foreign tourists, arrived by air, marking it the highest number of arrivals in a single day after several months.”
A prominent hotelier, while talking to this correspondent expressed hope that the publicity campaign by the Tourism Department being launched in the coming days in outside markets like Kolkata, Chennai, Gujarat will further boost the tourism.
“We are hopeful of a good tourism season in winter which has already got a boost due to the early snowfall”, he said adding “The starting of cable car corporation – Gondola – is a good thing which has already sent a positive message across the aspiring tourists to Valley.”
“We have already started receiving enquiries ahead of winter season” he maintained.
“This is a much needed relief to the tourism industry which has been suffering badly due to the COVID-19 pandemic”, he remarked.
