May 04: Continuing its drive against the misuse and illegal sale of pharmaceutical drugs, police in Anantnag, in a joint operation with the Drug Control Department conducted surprise inspections of medical stores in Achabal area of the district.
During the checking, three medical shops were found operating in violation of norms as their sale-purchase records were not properly maintained and updated. Acting promptly, the joint team sealed all the three medical shops viz, Hope Chemists and Drugs, Parry Medical Store and Dar and Rather Pharmacy.

The action has been taken under relevant provisions of law to prevent the possible diversion of scheduled drugs for illicit use. Further inquiry into the matter is underway and appropriate legal action will follow based on findings.
Police reiterates its zero-tolerance policy towards drug abuse and urges all chemists to strictly adhere to the Drug Control Act and maintain proper records. The public is requested to share information regarding any such violations to help build a drug-free society.
