Kupwara, April 30: Continuing its crackdown against drug trafficking, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday attached a residential property belonging to an alleged drug peddler in Kupwara district under provisions of the NDPS Act.

The action followed an investigation into the financial assets of Abdul Majeed Munshi, also known as Pandit, a resident of Gulgam in Kupwara. He was earlier booked in FIR No. 309/2018 at Police Station Kupwara under Sections 8 and 21 of the NDPS Act.

The move centers on findings from an inquiry conducted under Chapter VA of the NDPS Act, which deals with identification and forfeiture of illegally acquired property. Police said the accused had allegedly amassed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income through narcotics-related activities.

Verification by authorities established that the accused owned a residential house in Gulgam, valued at approximately ₹19.40 lakh. Acting under Section 68F of the NDPS Act, the property was attached after being prima facie identified as proceeds of drug trafficking.

Officials said the attachment is part of a broader strategy to dismantle the financial networks linked to narcotics trade in the region by targeting assets acquired through illegal means. [KNT]
