Srinagar, Dec 10 (GNS): In a significant meeting between a business delegation led by Naveen K Choudhary, Principal Secretary Agriculture/ Horticulture and top management of a Lulu group led by its CMD Yousuf Ali, a large number of decisions were taken to promote the export of Agriculture & Horticulture products from J&K to entire gulf region using stores of Lulu group.

Choudhary profusely thanked the commitment and concrete steps planned by the chairman Yousuf Ali of Lulu group for promoting J&K as an important export destination from India so far as fruits, vegetables, saffron, honey, spices  and other  products like trout fish etc are concerned, officials said.

Yousuf Ali, CMD lulu group directed a high level team to visit J&K immediately to start setting up office at Srinagar and also identify place to set up warehouses and packaging facilities. Choudhary assured all help to Lulu group for setting up logistic facilities and offices at identified facilities in J&K

It was agreed that there is tremendous scope to increase Apple export from J&K provided quality and grading is maintained, the officials said.

The request made by the Principal Secretary to export extremely perishable products like cherry , plum and pear through charted cargo planes was immediately accepted by CMD lulu group, they said.

The chairman Lulu group offered to host a “J&K special “ fortnight at all super markets at its group across the gulf region  on the occasion of Republic Day -2021. This fortnight celebration will begin on 24 January and will show case all of J&K’s famous products like cuisine and cultural heritage of J&K, they said. Choudhary assured full support from the Government of J&K in this regards, they said further.

The management of Lulu group also offered to provide job opportunities to talented youth of J&K in retail chain of its group. “Choudhary assured full support in terms of facilitation in this regard.”

It was also agreed to peruse relevant quarters for direct passenger as well as regular cargo flights between Srinagar and Dubai.

On this occasion the largest retail store of Lulu group in Dubai was decorated in Indian colours and large number of Indian Products including those from J&K were showcased; giving them place of prominence.

The success of sale of Kashmiri apples and saffron in particular was widely appreciated. The super market also offered Kashmiri cuisine this occasion.

On this occasion, an MoU was also signed between Lulu group and Fruit Master Agro Fresh J&K for supple of apple and other fruits for the super markets of Lulu group  across the  Gulf Countries.

Chaudhry while expressing happiness and satisfaction over the outcome of this meeting said that this signifies the potential and strength of products of J&K with opportunity to grow leaps and bonds and all the stakeholders must participate whole heartfelt in this endeavour. (GNS)
