Says Final Nail Put In The Coffin Of Democracy In Jammu and Kashmir
Srinagar, Feb 9 (GNS): PDP president and former Chief Minister on Tuesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of manipulating the DDC election results to put what she termed as “the final nail in the coffin” of democracy in Jammu and Kashmir.
“So much for Vajpayee ji’s vision of insaniyat, Kashmiriyat & jamhuriyat. Not surprised at all by recent DDC Chairmanship results. Two months were given to buy & intimidate the DDC members,” she said in a tweet referring to a slogan coined by former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
“Disgusting that senior officers in admin & police have taken it upon themselves to violate the mandate of people. By scrapping Article 370, BJP had already murdered insaniyat & Kashmiriyat. Now by manipulating DDC results, they’ve put the final nail in the coffin of Jamhuriyat,” she said in another tweet.
Mehbooba, who headed PDP-BJP coalition government before being arrested in the aftermath of the Article 370 on 5 August 2019, said that life in Kashmir was “a living hell.”
“This protest demanding Athar’s body led to GOI slapping UAPA against his father & arrest of local imam. Instead of showing any humanity the admin has intensified its cruelty by harassing the family. The boy’s placard in the video sums up life in Kashmir -it is indeed a living hell,” she said while referring a video in which family and others are seen protesting against the filing of a case against father of Athar, the youth killed in an “encounter” at Lawaypora here recently.
