Anantnag, May 12: A teenage student lost his life while three others sustained injuries after a devastating fire broke out during the intervening night at a Mosque-cum-Darul Uloom in Mattan Chowk area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Officials told KNC that the blaze erupted at Darul Uloom Baba Haider Reshi situated on Court Road, triggering panic in the locality and damaging portions of the seminary before fire and emergency teams, aided by locals and fellow students, managed to douse the flames after hectic efforts.
In the incident, four students suffered burn injuries and were immediately evacuated to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag for medical treatment.
Hospital authorities said that one among the injured students succumbed to injuries before reaching the hospital. The deceased was identified as Bilal Ahmad Kumar (15), son of Mohammad Akbar, a resident of Wardwan area.
The three injured students, all aged between 15 and 17 years, are presently undergoing treatment at GMC Anantnag, while one critically injured student has been shifted to a Srinagar hospital for specialised treatment.
Officials said the preliminary inquiry suggests that the fire might have been triggered by a short circuit. Meanwhile, police have registered a case and initiated further investigation into the incident. (KNC)
