Handwara, Dec 23 (GNS): Hundreds of households in Nowgam-A are up in arms against Jal Shakti Department as the locality is without water supply for over a month now.
A delegation from the area told GNS that the water supply scheme installed at Puthwari has gone defunct now leaving hundreds of the households craving for potable drinking water.
Alleging the Jal Shakti Department (previously known as Public Health Engineering) of lackadaisical approach, the delegation members said that despite time to time appraisals the department concerned is yet to budge as the water station continues to remain in shambles.
“This careless approach has forced at least five thousand inhabitants to drink polluted water from the nearby nallah”, Kaleem-u-Din part of the delegation said adding “It may led to a major health complications for the locals.”
When contacted Executive Engineer PHE Handwara, Zubair Ahmad told GNS that he is not aware about the matter as of now.
Assuring of sorting out the issue on a priority basis, Ahmad said that a team will be deputed to the area for an early resolution of the matter. (GNS)
