Srinagar, May 04: Baramulla Member of Parliament Abdul Rashid Sheikh, popular as Er Rashid, has approached the Delhi High Court seeking modification of conditions of his interim bail to enable him to meet his ailing father undergoing treatment at All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi.

According to submissions made before the court, Rashid had earlier been granted a one week interim bail to visit his father, who was admitted to a hospital in Srinagar. The court had imposed conditions including restricted movement and security escort during the bail period.

The counsel informed the court that the condition of Er Rashid’s father, Khazir Mohammad Sheikh, deteriorated in recent days, following which he was shifted from Srinagar to AIIMS Delhi for specialised treatment on medical advice.

It was submitted that the Member Parliament, who is presently in Srinagar under the existing bail terms, is unable to travel outside the permitted jurisdiction. The plea urged the court to relax the restrictions on humanitarian grounds to allow him to be with his father during the critical phase of treatment.

Er Rashid, a Lok Sabha MP from Baramulla and founder of the Awami Ittehad Party, has been in judicial custody since 2019 in connection with a ‘terror funding case’ being probed by the National Investigation Agency.

The High Court has taken note of the submissions and is expected to pass appropriate orders after hearing all parties.
