Srinagar, June 20 (GNS): Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Saturday said the prolonged caging of people’s legitimate voices is not in the interests of democracy and the continuous house detention of many party functionaries, leaders goes against the values of democracy.
While expressing concern over the continuous illegal detention of various party leaders including Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, Nasir Aslam Wani, Muhammad Shafi Uri, A R Rather, Mubarak Gul, Shameema Firdous, Aga Syed Mehmood, Dr Bashir Ahmed Shah Veeri, Irfan Shah, Ali Muhammad Dar, Abdul Majeed Bhat Larmi and others, party’s Additional General Secretary Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal said that it is heart wrenching to see party leaders and outstanding people’s representatives facing oddments in face of such prolonged incarceration.
“After quashing of the PSA against Sagar Sb, there is no justification for keeping the party functionaries confined to their houses. Besides most of them have not been keeping well owing to their preexisting ailments, their predicaments have compounded in wake of their continuous incarceration. Their only fault is that they have been lending voice to the people of their constituencies. It’s needless to mention that their contribution towards democracy has been immense. It is high time for the administration to end their illegal detention,” he said.
He further added, “Having them under house detention is a great disservice to the people whom they have been representing in the legislature. The government if it wants complete redemption of the situation, it has to undo all the decisions taken on 5th of August and put an end to such undue detentions. It is particularly excruciating for people to not see their leaders amidst them. Having them caged is akin to choking the voices of people.”
Meanwhile residents of assembly constituency, HomShalibugh, through party Block President Frisal Nazir Ahmed Ganaie have asked the administration to release former legislature and district President Kulgam Abdul Majeed Bhat Larmi from illegal house detention. After his release from MLA hostel, Srinagar, the authorities have not allowed him to move out of his residential house in Laram ganijpora and have kept him confined since then. (GNS)
