SRINAGAR: Acting on credible input, Police Station Zakoora has identified Ab Hameed Kuchay, a resident of Soura and operator of Sunshine Foods at SICOP Zakoora, as a key suspect in an alleged criminal conspiracy to supply decomposed meat to restaurants and hotels across Srinagar.

Police allege that Kuchay, in connivance with Arif Ahmad Shah, a resident of Baghat Barzulla, was involved in distributing meat unfit for human consumption in large quantities, posing a grave threat to public health.

The case emerged during a joint drive by Srinagar Police and the Food Safety Department to crack down on the sale of unhygienic and expired meat products. Raids were carried out at multiple locations in the city, resulting in the seizure and destruction of substantial quantities of rotten meat on the spot under the Food Safety and Standards Act.

In one major action, officials raided a cold storage facility in Parimpora where decomposed meat was recovered. The meat was seized, and the facility was sealed under relevant provisions of the Act, reads a post on X by Srinagar Police.

An FIR No. 48/2025 has been registered at Police Station Zakoora under sections 271, 275, and 61(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police said investigations are underway and warned that such actions, which endanger public health, will be met with strict legal consequences.

Authorities have assured that intensified inspections and coordinated enforcement will continue across the food supply chain to ensure compliance with safety standards. -(KDC)
