August 03: Continuing its sustained drive against illegal mining, Police in Baramulla, in coordination with the Geology & Mining Department, took action against vehicles involved in the unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals at different locations across the district.
During naka checking, two tippers bearing registration Nos. JK01L-5608 and JK02BV-9097 were intercepted while transporting sand and stone without valid royalty permits. The matter was referred to the Geology & Mining Department for legal action under the relevant provisions. The tipper carrying sand was fined and released after payment of the prescribed penalty, while the tipper carrying stone failed to pay the fine and was subsequently seized after completion of the requisite legal formalities.
In a separate action during area patrolling at Palpora, Palhallan, police seized two tractors—one bearing registration No. JK05E-4245 and another bearing Chassis No. WACE61618955538—for their alleged involvement in the illegal extraction of minerals. The vehicles were being operated by Muntazir Sultan Dar, son of Mohammad Sultan Dar, resident of Palpora, and Faizan Bilal Reshi, son of Bilal Ahmad Reshi, resident of Palpora. Action has been initiated under the MMDR Act.
Police remain committed to curbing illegal mining and appeal to the public to report any such unlawful activities to the nearest police station.
