Police intensify crackdown on illegal mining; 26 vehicles seized in Baramulla, Ganderbal & Shopian

Police tighten noose on illegal mining in Baramulla; Illegally dumped minerals seized

August 05: Continuing the sustained drive against illegal mining and unauthorized transportation of minerals, Police have intensified enforcement measures, resulting in the seizure of 26 vehicles involved in violations of the MMDR Act and related provisions in Baramulla, Ganderbal and Shopian.

In Baramulla, during naka checking at Babateng, Pattan, Police intercepted and seized two vehicles including a dumper (Registration No. JK04H-9913) and a tipper (Registration No. JK01G-5111) for transporting illegally extracted minerals without valid authorization. Both vehicles were detained on the spot, and legal proceedings under the MMDR Act have been initiated.

Meanwhile, in Ganderbal, Police seized 19 vehicles, comprising 03 tippers, 15 tractors, and 01 JCB, for their involvement in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals within the jurisdictions of PS Ganderbal, PS Kangan, and PS Gund. The seized vehicles were handed over to the concerned Geology & Mining Department, which imposed the prescribed penalties under the relevant legal provisions.

In Shopian, during routine patrolling, a Police party from Police Post Saidpora intercepted and seized three tractors engaged in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals without valid royalty documents. In another action, a Police party from Police Station Keller intercepted and seized one tractor involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals without the mandatory permission. Similarly, a Police party from Police Post Hermain seized one tipper found involved in illegal mining activities without the required authorization. In this regard, cases has been registered at respective police stations, and investigation has been initiated.

Police have reiterated their firm commitment to curbing illegal mining activities and safeguarding natural resources. The public is urged to report any instances of illegal mining or unauthorized transportation of minerals to the nearest police station. Strict action will continue against all those found violating the law.
