Police intensify crackdown on illegal mining in Anantnag & Shopian; 12 vehicles seized

May 25: Continuing its sustained crackdown against illegal mining and unauthorized extraction of mineral resources, Police in Anantnag and Shopian carried out multiple enforcement actions and seized 12 vehicles, including JCBs, tippers, dumpers and a tractor, involved in unlawful mining and transportation activities.

In Anantnag, a police party from Police Post Janglatmandi detected illegal extraction of mining material at Donipawa. During the operation, one JCB and four tippers involved in the unlawful extraction and transportation of mineral resources were seized on the spot. Cognizance of the matter has been taken under relevant provisions of law.

In another operation, during night patrolling, a police party from Police Post Dialgam intercepted and seized five dumpers at Bondialgam Crossing for their involvement in the illegal transportation of minerals. In this regard, FIR No. 157/2026 has been registered and investigation has been initiated.

Meanwhile in Shopian, Police seized one JCB and one tractor involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals from the Berthipora area during routine patrolling by Police Post Berthipora. The vehicles were found operating without valid royalty documents. Accordingly, FIR No. 52/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Keller and investigation has been set into motion.

J&K Police reiterated their commitment towards safeguarding natural resources and taking strict legal action against individuals involved in illegal mining activities. The general public has been urged to cooperate with Police and report any such unlawful activities.
