Police Solves Two Theft Cases In Awantipora; Accused Arrested;Stolen Property Recovered

March 27: Police solved two thefts cases in Awantipora by arresting two accused persons involved in the commission of crime and recovered stolen property from their possession.

During the course of investigation of case FIR No. 62/2026 and 67/2026 of Police Station Awantipora, a police party led by SHO PS Awantipora along with IC PP Toll Plaza, employed modern investigative techniques, including examination and analysis of CCTV footage from multiple locations. These efforts led to the identification and subsequent arrest of two accused persons identified as Mohd Lateef Pathan son of Mohd Ali Pathan resident of Lanilab Mujhpathri, Khansahib, Budgam and Sahil Nissar Sheikh son of Nissar Ahmad Sheikh resident of Arampora, Qamarwari.

During sustained interrogation, the accused confessed their involvement in the commission of the offence. Stolen property, including two calves and cash amounting to ₹1,30,000/- (proceeds of theft), has been successfully recovered from their possession. Additionally, two vehicles used in the commission of crime, bearing registration numbers JK01AU-9241 (Auto) and JK05B-2671 (Tata 207) have also been seized.

During the further course of investigation, one more accused person involved in the said crime has been identified as Waseem Sheikh, and is presently absconding. Efforts are underway to secure his arrest.

It is pertinent to mention that accused Mohd Lateef Pathan is a habitual offender, with more than 18 criminal cases registered against him in various police stations across the Kashmir Valley. Further arrests and recoveries are expected as the investigation progresses.

Police appeal to the general public to share any information regarding the absconding accused. Informants’ identity will be kept strictly confidential. Police remain committed to maintaining law and order and urges the general public to cooperate with police in curbing criminal activities.
