Srinagar, Feb 01(GNS) : A policeman was shot at and injured by militants at Amishijipora area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday.
A top police officer told GNS that the gunmen fired upon the policeman identified as Shabir Ahmad when he was returning home, leaving him critically injured.
The policeman was shifted to District Hospital Shopian wherefrom he was shifted to SMHS hospital for advanced treatment.
“Today at about 1745 hours Shopian Police received information about a (militancy-related) incident at Amishijipora area of Shopian where (militants) had fired upon a Police personnel. Senior police officers reached at the spot,” a police spokesperson said, adding, “Officers attending the spot learnt that ASI Shabir Ahmad was shot at while he was coming back from mosque after prayers in his native place Amishijipora area of Shopian.”
In this incident, the spokesperson said, Shabir had received gunshot injuries and was immediately evacuated to nearby hospital where from he has been referred to Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment. “The condition of the injured official is said to be stable.”
He said Police have registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law. “Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of this incident,” he said, adding, “Area has been cordoned and search in the area is going on.” (GNS)
