Srinagar, Aug 01: A seven-year-old student lost his life after being trapped under debris when a mudslide struck the premises of a private school in the Mawer area of Handwara in north Kashmir on Saturday.
Officials said the deceased has been identified as Rehan Ahmad Dar, son of Reyaz Ahmad Dar, a resident of Khudi Mawer. He was a Class 1 (primary class) student at a local school.
According to officials, the mudslide hit the school premises during the day, trapping the child under the debris. He was immediately evacuated and rushed to the New Type Primary Health Centre (NTPHC), Qalamabad, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Police have registered a case and initiated the necessary legal proceedings.
