Uri, May 10 (GNS): A bridge constructed nearly a year ago in Nambla village of Uri is yet to become functional, with residents alleging that poor planning and execution have rendered the structure unusable.

Locals informed GNS that the bridge was constructed by the Rural Development Department (RDD) over a nallah to connect Gagee and Qureshi Mohallas of Nambla village. However, they claimed that the height of the bridge from both ends and the absence of proper approach connectivity have made it inaccessible for public use.

Residents alleged that despite the expenditure of substantial public funds on the project, people are unable to use the bridge even after completion. They said the structure remains elevated on both sides without proper road linkage, defeating the very purpose of its construction.

“The bridge has been completed for months, but nobody can use it because there is no proper access from either side,” a local resident said, alleging that public money has gone to waste.

The residents urged the concerned authorities to immediately look into the matter and take corrective measures to make the bridge functional for the public.

When contacted, BDO Uri told GNS that for the purpose of making the bridge functional, they have already requisitioned to MGNREGA to complete the wing wall work at an earliest. (GNS)
