QRT Kupwara seizes 144 MTs of Nallah muck

KUPWARA, MARCH 15: Acting on specific information, a Quick Response Team (QRT) headed by the District Mineral Officer Kupwara, Mumtaz Ahmad Shah  conducted a raid today at Girhetti and seized 144 metric tons of Nallah muck that had been illegally stocked near a marriage hall in Goose area.

The QRT comprised Naib Tehsildar Headquarter Kupwara, a police party from Bazar Police, and members of the Mining Squad. During the operation, the team also identified individuals allegedly involved in illegal mining activities at the site. The seized material was subsequently handed over to the Bazar Police for further legal action.

It is pertinent to mention that the Quick Response Team, the first of its kind in the Kashmir province, was earlier constituted by the Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Shrikant Suse. The initiative aims to strengthen enforcement against illegal mining in the district.

The activities of the QRT have been widely appreciated across the district for their proactive role in curbing the menace of illegal mining and protecting natural resources.
