MeT Forecast Decrease in Precipitation From Monday

Srinagar, May 31 (GNS): Rains continued in Kashmir, including the summer capital here, on Sunday, bringing down mercury considerably across the Valley.

An official of the Meteorological (MeT) department told GNS that Srinagar received 6.7mm of rainfall from 0830 to 0630 hours and recorded maximum temperature of 16.6 as against 22.2 degrees Celsius on Saturday.

He said Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district received 17.6mm of rainfall, highest during the time, in any other part of the Valley.

South Kashmir’s Kokernag, and Pahalgam in Anantnag district, received 2.4mm, while the neighbouring Qazigund received 2.3mm and Kupwara in north Kashmir 10mm rainfall, he said.

Meanwhile, the weatherman said that rainy spell would slump into a subdued phase, forecasting decrease in the precipitation in the subsequent two days.

“There would be widespread light to moderate rain/thunder over Jammu and Kashmir and isolated light rain in Ladakh region in next 24 hours,” he said, adding, “there would be a decrease in precipitation in subsequent two days.”

The weatherman also issued a “yellow warning” for isolated thunder squalls with lightning and gusty winds (30-40 Kmph) in both Jammu and Kashmir regions till June 3.

There are four types colour codes signifying the level of caution: green (which means no action), yellow (situation to be watched), amber (government agencies need to be prepared for severe weather), and red (action needed by the agencies). (GNS)
