Chandigarh, May 2: Punjab Police has reportedly booked Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak, who recently defected to the Bharatiya Janata Party, official sources said on Saturday.
According to sources, two FIRs have been registered against Pathak under non-bailable sections. However, authorities have not yet disclosed further details regarding the nature of the cases.
Pathak was among the seven Rajya Sabha MPs who resigned from the Aam Aadmi Party and later joined the BJP.
On April 24, the AAP faced a major setback when seven of its 10 Rajya Sabha MPs — including Raghav Chadha, Ashok Mittal, Harbhajan Singh, Rajendra Gupta, Vikramjit Sahney and Swati Maliwal — quit the party, alleging that it had deviated from its founding principles and values under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal.
Six of the seven MPs were from Punjab. Subsequently, Rajya Sabha Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan formally accepted their merger with the BJP, reducing the AAP’s strength in the Upper House to three members.(KNC)
