Srinagar, Feb 26 (GNS): The Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam Farooqi’s office on Thursday announced that Sadaqat-ul-Fitr for the year 2026 has been fixed at ₹80 per individual.

The Grand Mufti’s office in a communique, as per GNS, emphasized that Zakat-ul-Fitr is compulsory for every Muslim, including men, women and infants. The parents must discharge the charity on behalf of their minor children, while adults are required to pay individually.

Addressing a frequently raised issue, the office said that a husband cannot pay Sadaqat-ul-Fitr for his wife without her explicit consent.

While the amount has been determined on the basis of half a Sa’ of wheat, calculated at ₹77, it however is rounded up to ₹80 as a measure of caution.

The communique added that those who are financially well-off may choose to offer the charity either in cash or in kind, such as wheat, dates, raisins or other approved food grains, equivalent to the prescribed amount.

Further emphasising its purpose, it has been said Sadaqat-ul-Fitr should be distributed among the poor, destitute, needy relatives, orphans and travellers within locals. However that it must not be allocated to mosques, khanqahs, or any political or religious organisations.

As per the communique, the faithful have been called upon to fulfil the obligation before offering Eid-ul-Fitr prayers. (GNS)
