Poonch/Srinagar, May 5: Fresh snowfall at Peer Ki Gali along the Mughal Road left more than 180 vehicles stranded, prompting an immediate rescue and clearance operation by traffic authorities and the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).

Officials said that out of the stranded vehicles, around 70 vehicles travelling from Srinagar towards Poonch were successfully cleared. Meanwhile, of the 109 vehicles heading towards Srinagar, nearly 50 have been safely turned back towards Poonch, while efforts are underway to return the remaining vehicles.

Traffic police teams are actively engaged on the ground, coordinating with BRO personnel who have deployed snow clearance machinery to restore road connectivity. However, slippery road conditions and continuous snowfall have significantly slowed vehicular movement.

Authorities have imposed restrictions on traffic movement towards Srinagar, and no vehicles are currently being allowed to proceed in that direction as a precautionary measure.

Earlier reports highlighted the relentless efforts of the traffic personnel braving extreme weather conditions. Inspector Manzoor Kohli, along with the SOT Mughal Road team, was seen assisting stranded commuters and ensuring their safe evacuation, reflecting a strong commitment to duty amid challenging circumstances.

Officials have advised commuters to avoid travel on the Mughal Road until weather conditions improve and the road is declared safe for movement.(KNC)
