Srinagar, May 4: A two-year-old child was rescued alive after drowning in the Jhelum River near a footbridge in the Parimpora area of Srinagar on Monday, officials said.
The child, identified as Abdullah, son of Showkat Ahmed Waza, a resident of Fruit Mandi Parimpora, was brought to the Children Hospital Bemina after the incident.
According to the attendant’s statement, the child had fallen into the river near a footbridge in Parimpora. He was subsequently pulled out of the water by a local resident, identified as Ajaz Ahmed Sheikh.
The child was alive at the time of rescue but was reported to be in a serious condition when shifted to the hospital for treatment.
Authorities said that the Police Control Room Srinagar had been informed about the incident. [KNT]
