Srinagar, July 30: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Thursday issued a high-intensity weather alert, warning of a spell of heavy to torrential rainfall at several places across Jammu and Kashmir over the next 30 minutes to one hour.
According to the alert, intense rainfall was expected over Kokernag, Verinag, the Banihal-Ramban sector and the Tangdhar and Keran sectors of Kupwara district.
The Meteorological Centre warned that there were high chances of cloudbursts in the upper catchment areas, which could trigger flash floods in vulnerable locations.
People residing in low-lying areas and along streams and nallahs were advised to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary movement and follow advisories issued by the local administration and disaster management authorities.
The weather office urged the public to stay safe as the intense spell of rainfall could lead to rapid water-level rise and localised flooding in the affected areas. [KNT]
