“Rocket Boy of Kashmir” invited to speak at global gathering of top physicists

Kulgam: In a proud moment for Jammu & Kashmir and India’s scientific community, Suhail ibn Shahnawaz, a young physicist from Kulgam district, has been officially invited to speak at the 2nd International Conference on Gravitation, Astrophysics and Cosmology (ICGAC2026), to be held in Paris, France from April 16 to 18, 2026.

Suhail, often referred as the “Rocket Boy of Kashmir”, has been recognized for his groundbreaking work in theoretical physics, quantum gravity, cosmology and aerospace innovation.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), his research has attracted global attention, making him one of the most promising young scientific minds emerging from the region.

ICGAC2026 is expected to host Nobel Laureates, top astrophysicists and renowned scholars from around the world.

Suhail’s inclusion as a speaker is seen as a major acknowledgment of his contributions to modern science and innovation. His presence at the global stage also shines a spotlight on the untapped scientific potential of Kashmir.

“This invitation is not just about me—it’s about every aspiring young scientist in Kashmir who dreams beyond boundaries,” Suhail told KNO.

Born and raised in Kulgam district, Suhail’s journey into the world of space science began with a deep-rooted passion for physics and innovation.

He gained early recognition through youth-led space awareness initiatives, most notably Buraq-1—a symbolic space mission designed to inspire interest in aerospace and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education among Kashmiri youth.

Suhail actively engages in science communication, delivering motivational talks and participating in educational outreach programs.

He has appeared on platforms like the Teen Talk Show, where he encourages young minds to explore science as a career and as a way of thinking.

Suhail is a vocal advocate for making science more accessible in remote and underserved regions, particularly in conflict-affected areas like Kashmir.

He believes that promoting scientific curiosity and hands-on innovation can open new opportunities for the youth. “Space belongs to everyone. I want every child in Kashmir to know they can be part of this cosmic journey,” he said.

With this international recognition, Suhail ibn Shahnawaz not only elevates the image of Kashmir in the global scientific landscape but also offers a powerful message of hope, resilience and intellectual brilliance—(KNO)
