Locals, social media users appreciate Shaheed Gunj Police for swift action

Srinagar, May 20 : Police in Shaheed Gunj area of Srinagar have arrested two auto-rickshaw drivers after a video surfaced on social media in which the duo was heard making derogatory and indecent remarks about the modesty of women.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that acting swiftly on the viral video, Police Station Shaheed Gunj took suo-moto cognizance of the incident and initiated an investigation.

He said the accused persons were identified and subsequently arrested.

The arrested individuals were identified as Adil Ahmad Shah, son of Ghulam Nabi Shah of Draigam Budgam, and Mehraj Uddin Rafique, son of Abdul Rashid, of Brain Nishat, currently living in Natipora, both stated to be auto-rickshaw drivers.

He said police have also seized two e-rickshaws involved in the case. A case under FIR No. 46/2026 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Shaheed Gunj.

Pertinently, the incident came to light after the video was widely circulated on social media platforms, triggering public outrage and prompting immediate police action. “Strict measures will be taken against anyone found involved in behaviour that disturbs public order or disrespects women’s dignity,” a Police officer told KNO.

Moreover, locals and social media users have appreciated the swift action of police, thanking them for prompt response—(KNO)
