IGP Says One Among Them Refused To Surrender Despite Family’s Pleas
Srinagar, July 04 (GNS): Two militants were killed and three soldiers including a JCO were injured in a gunfight at Arrah area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar told GNS that operation was halted for few hours as “we brought family of one of the militants’ to persuade him surrender.” However, the trapped militant refused to surrender, the IGP added.
During the initial exchange of firing one militant was killed and three army soldiers including JCO were injured. The injured were shifted to hospital.
Earlier, a joint team of Police, Army’s 34RR and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Arrah.
As the joint team encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off an encounter. Pertinently, 122 militants have been killed so far this year in the Valley. (GNS)
