Srinagar, April 10 (GNS): One person was injured and two residential houses were damaged along the Line of Control in Kupwara as militaries of India and Pakistan engaged in artillery shelling on Friday.

“There unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Keran Sector (Kupwara). Own troops retaliated effectively and strongly. Precision targeting of gun Areas, (militant) launch pads and ammunition dump carried out,” Defence ministry spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia told GNS, adding “reports of heavy damage on enemy side,” he said.

Officials said some shells landed in village Trushan Jugtiyal Hayhama, resulting in injuries to a civilian. Also, a house was also damaged in the same village as well as one at Rawatpora area, they added.

Amid coronavirus pandemic, the shelling created panic among the residents.

Not only those living nearby, but the shelling also rattled even far off villages with some villagers saying that they are hearing the roaring sounds for the first time.

“The shelling is so intense that we are for the first time hearing it hear,” said Sajjad Ahmad, a resident of Tarathpora, a densely populated village which is very far away from the LoC.

“The houses were shaken with every sound of the shell,” he said. (GNS)
