Srinagar, Dec 31 (GNS): The district administration Anantnag has called for avoiding the use of PVC flex for banners and posters in government offices or its functions in the south Kashmir district.

PVC being a plastic polymer is non-biodegradable and releases toxic fumes on burning. These harmful toxins by getting bio-accumulated in the food chain of ecosystem can cause a serious hazard to human health and the environment.

“It is impressed upon all the District officers of District Anantnag to ensure that the use of single-use or short life PVC flex for banners and posters in government offices or its functions should be strictly avoided,” reads a circular issued by a Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, a copy of which lies with GNS. “Alternatives such as cloth banners, light weight textile fabrics, wrinkle resistant wrap knit, natural-fiber based sandwich boards, resin infused paper, particle boards etc must be used.” (GNS)
