Anantnag, June 17 : Continuing its intensified crackdown against drug abuse and narcotics-related offences, Anantnag Police on Wednesday registered six separate cases under the NDPS Act after six individuals tested positive for drug consumption during operations conducted across the district.
Official sources said that acting on specific inputs and during routine checking exercises, police teams intercepted six persons found moving under suspicious circumstances at different locations. The individuals were taken into custody and subjected to medical examination through Rapid Drug Detection Tests to verify suspected drug use.
The test reports confirmed the presence of narcotic substances in all six individuals. Consequently, separate FIRs were registered at the respective police stations under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, including Section 8/27.
Police have initiated investigations into each case to trace the origin of the narcotic substances and to ascertain whether the accused have any links with drug trafficking networks operating in the district.
Reaffirming its commitment to combating the growing drug menace, Anantnag Police said it is following a zero-tolerance approach against both drug consumers and peddlers. The district police maintained that stringent legal action would continue against all those involved in the use, sale and distribution of narcotics to protect society, particularly the younger generation, from the harmful effects of substance abuse.
Anantnag Police also appealed to members of the public to actively assist law enforcement agencies by sharing credible information regarding drug peddling and drug abuse in their areas. Officials assured that the identity of informants would be kept strictly confidential.
The police further urged parents, community elders and civil society members to remain vigilant and extend full cooperation in the collective effort to build a drug-free and healthier society. (KNC)
