Srinagar, Feb 28 (GNS): Jammu-Srinagar highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with the outside world, has been thrown open after “huge” landslide in Udhampur district forced its closure on Monday.

Official sources told GNS the thoroughfare was blocked at Dewal near Samroli, Udhampur due to a huge landslide.

They said that men and machinery were employed to clear the thoroughfare to restore the traffic on the strategic highway. A number of blasts were carried throughout the day.

“Tomorrow on 01-03-2022, subject to fair weather and better road conditions LMVs(Passenger)/private Cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar the highway viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa . TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic,” a traffic department official said, revising its advisory just a few hours after announcing that the highway shall remain closed on Tuesday (March).

Meanwhile, sources told GNS that road at Samroli landslide site made through for traffic late in the evening and stranded passengers were allowed.

Meanwhile, Mughal Road, connecting Shopian with Poonch and Rajouri districts, remained closed for vehicular movement in view of snow accumulation at Peer Ki Gali.

Also, Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road remained shut for vehicular movement in view of snow accumulation on Zoji la axis and has been closed till further orders. Kishtwar-Sinthan road also remained closed in view of snow accumulation, the traffic department official said. (GNS)
