Srinagar, April 16 (GNS): An Army soldier was killed in an encounter at Watnar Kokernag area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday.
A senior police officer told GNS that in the initial exchange of firing one army trooper of 19RR received serious bullet wounds and was immediately shifted to nearby hospital for treatment. However he succumbed to his injuries, the officer said.
Meanwhile sources said that after initial contact with the militants, no fresh contact was established with them so far even as searches are continuing.
Earlier reports reaching GNS that a joint team of Police and army launched a cordon and search operation in Watnar Kokernag amid inputs about the presence of militants.
As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the them, triggering off the gunfight.(GNS)
