GANDERBAL: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir who is also Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) today presided over a crucial meeting in the Conference Hall of Mini Secretariat, here to meticulously review the District Disaster Management Plan, and assess the preparedness for Disaster Mitigation, Response and Recovery to effectively handle any exigency.

During the comprehensive review, the DC examined the District Disaster Management Plan and its associated measures for Disaster Mitigation, Response, and Recovery particularly in the Sonamarg and other hilly areas of the district.

 Special attention was directed towards the identification of hazards, historical data on disasters, constitution of an Incident Responsive Team for Sonamarg, and the formulation of operational guidelines.

Emphasizing the importance of proactive planning, the DC issued necessary instructions to the Revenue department and the Rural Development Department for the identification of vulnerable areas susceptible to disasters. This initiative aims to facilitate strategic planning to address exigencies effectively.

The Chairman DDMA underscored the need to address critical dimensions of natural disasters by revamping the District Disaster Management Plan. He called for the incorporation of essential mitigation measures and safety precautions to enhance the plan’s real-time efficacy.

Additionally, the Chairman stressed the importance of formulating pre-disaster and post-disaster measures to ensure timely Disaster Mitigation, Response, and Recovery, safeguarding both people and property.

A department-wise appraisal of preparedness and the availability of resources, including manpower and machinery were conducted during the meeting. The Chairman DDMA emphasized the necessity of conducting mock drills and providing necessary training to both staff and members of youth clubs from adjacent localities.

The meeting witnessed the presence of key officials, including Additional District Development Commissioner, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani; ASP Ganderbal, ADC, CEO SDA, ACR, SDM, ACD, and other officers from concerned departments.
