Anantnag, June 27 : In a major crackdown against the illegal sale and misuse of regulated medicines under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, the Drug Control Department, Anantnag, in coordination with the Police Department, on Saturday sealed a medical shop identified as Waseem Medicate at Brakpora in Anantnag district after detecting serious violations in the maintenance of records of Schedule H1 medicines.

Official sources told KNC that a joint inspection team conducted a comprehensive inspection drive across various medical establishments in the district. During the inspection, officials thoroughly scrutinized the sale and purchase records of Schedule H1 drugs to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and Rules.

The inspection revealed serious irregularities in the record maintenance of Schedule H1 medicines at Waseem Medicate, prompting the authorities to immediately close the medical shop on the spot. The officials have also initiated proceedings for cancellation of the establishment’s drug licence in accordance with the law.

Officials said the action forms part of the intensified campaign aimed at curbing the illegal sale of psychotropic and habit-forming drugs, which are often misused and contribute to substance abuse.

The Drug Control Department reiterated its commitment to taking stringent action against violators and ensuring strict enforcement of drug regulations. It also appealed to all chemists and medical store owners to maintain prescribed records and comply with statutory norms, emphasizing that any violation would invite strict legal action.

The department reaffirmed that the ongoing enforcement drive will continue across the district as part of the government’s efforts to build a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. (KNC)
