Jammu, June 27 : Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General N.S. Raja Subramani on Saturday undertook his maiden official visit to Jammu and Kashmir, carrying out an extensive review of the security environment along the Line of Control (LoC) and evaluating the operational preparedness of the Army ahead of the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.

During his visit, the CDS reviewed the overall security situation at the Northern Command Headquarters in Udhampur and the XVI Corps Headquarters at Nagrota. Senior Army commanders briefed him on the prevailing security scenario, counter-terrorism operations, anti-infiltration measures, and comprehensive security arrangements being implemented to ensure the smooth and secure conduct of the forthcoming Amarnath pilgrimage.

General Subramani also visited forward locations in the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch, where he assessed the operational readiness of troops deployed along the LoC. He interacted with field commanders and reviewed the effectiveness of the anti-infiltration grid while receiving updates on recent infiltration attempts from across the border and the Army’s response to emerging security challenges.

The CDS is scheduled to continue his visit to Kashmir, where he will review the security situation at the XV Corps Headquarters in Srinagar and visit additional forward areas to assess operational preparedness and deployment along the frontline.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth has begun a three-day visit to the Union Territory of Ladakh. During the visit, he is expected to hold interactions with senior Army officials, review the security situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), and visit the strategically significant Siachen Glacier to assess the welfare, living conditions, and operational preparedness of troops deployed in the high-altitude region.

Separately, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi reviewed the security scenario in Eastern Ladakh with senior military commanders. He also called on Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Brigadier (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.), where discussions focused on strengthening civil-military coordination, enhancing cooperation between the administration and the armed forces, promoting regional development, and exploring opportunities for the re-employment of Agniveers within the Union Territory administration.

The Army Chief later visited the Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre to review training infrastructure, operational capabilities, and ongoing modernization initiatives. He appreciated the officers and soldiers for maintaining a high level of operational readiness in one of the world’s toughest operational environments and presented Commendation Cards to selected personnel in recognition of their exemplary service and dedication.
