Srinagar, Jan 26: Traffic Police Rural Kashmir on Monday issued a travel advisory in view of the prevailing weather conditions and predictions of heavy rain and snowfall across the Valley, urging commuters, tourists and drivers to exercise caution while travelling, especially on hilly roads.

The advisory as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC said that movement on hilly roads will be permitted strictly as per prescribed cut-off timings and traffic advisories. Owing to snow accumulation on NH-44 and other hilly routes, commuters travelling towards Jammu, Qazigund, Gulmarg, Ladakh, Sonamarg, Pahalgam, Gurez, Karnah and Machil have been advised to confirm road status and travel timings from Traffic Police Control Room (TPCR) Kashmir before commencing their journey.

Traffic Police further advised motorists to ensure that anti-skid equipment is properly fitted in their vehicles, warning that no vehicle without adequate anti-skid mechanisms will be allowed to ply on snowbound roads, including Tangmarg–Gulmarg, Kangan–Sonamarg and beyond, Sinthan–Kishtwar, Pahalgam Road, Mughal Road, Kupwara border roads and Gurez-Bandipora Road, if these routes remain open.

To avoid congestion at holding areas, authorities said only registered anti-skid chain vendors will be permitted to install chains at designated locations.

The advisory has been issued by Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic Rural Kashmir, Ravinder Pal Singh, who urged people to cooperate with traffic authorities to ensure safe and smooth travel during adverse weather conditions. (KNC)
